ten when one thinks about educational toys, the first things to come to mind are toys or videos designed for certain skills, such as learning numbers or the alphabet. These can be video sets like Baby Einstein or flashcards with pictures of animals, numbers, or letters colorfully displayed on the cards. While many of these items are ideal for a toddler or even some preschool-age children, many of them are too advanced for a baby. If you're looking to give your baby - or a baby you're buying a shower present for - a head start, some educational toys are available. But, especially for children under one year, educational toys are referred to as "stimulation toys" or "infant stimulation."
Infant stimulation toys are designed to stimulate the five senses, or, at this point, sight, touch, and hearing. As a baby has unfocused vision and hearing and is unable to use its fingers, these toys are designed to help a baby use these senses. For example, many baby toys and crib items are designed in black, white, and red - both solid colors and patterns - as the sharply contrasting colors are more visible to a baby's eyes than primary colors. Objects like a mobile, a play mat, rattles, and even the edge of a baby crib mirror are designed with this color combination to enhance and "stimulate" a baby's vision. These objects, in addition, are coupled with hearing features, such as music or sounds that come out when a baby touches it. To enhance touch, even when a baby can't fully use its hands, a play mat or any other crib objects may be made of different textures or sounds, such as crinkling or jingling, that a baby can make when lying down on or rolling on a play mat or touching a stuffed animal.
As soon as a baby is capable of using its fingers to some degree, toys now have touching, grasping, and holding purposes and this extends past infancy through toddler stages. Only, for toddlers, toys start to have pretend and creative purposes to help a child start emulating the behavior of adults, which, as he or she becomes more aware of the world surrounding, he or she wants to imitate.
If you're looking for a baby gift, the possibilities for an educational toy don't end with videos and flashcards. Many baby items, which can be given as baby shower gifts, have the black-white-red color scheme and other toys allow a baby or child to use his hands. In fact, many baby toys have an educational purposes, and even baby gifts of colored block sets, musical toys, play sets, or dolls have an educational and stimulation purpose for children under three years of age.

Selling Educational Products to China - Is it Child's Play?
There has been a noticeable increase in interest in translation and relating to educational products and services aimed at the Chinese market. Why is this?
A country which imposes a 'one child only' policy on parents might not seem, at first glance, the most attractive market for educational toys and tools. But when that market has around 400 million 0-14 year olds and a long tradition of parents willing to make sacrifices for the sake of their children's education, that market suddenly looks much more promising.
Economically, the climate is favourable for the sale of educational toys. On the one hand, the Chinese value education highly and have a strong motivation to excel; education is seen as a crucial foundation for success. On the other, the increased spending power of Chinese families means that, at the same time as putting pressure on their child to succeed, parents will happily spend on their children in ways that will help them do so. Today, Chinese parents want their children to achieve personal success more than ever.
Business considering exporting to China should especially note these market trends:
• The items that children consume - toys, video games, DVDs and television programmes - are much more marketable to Chinese parents if they have an educational aspect to them.
• Chinese parents are very keen that their children speak fluent English which means that educational items that help them learn English are very popular.
• Chinese consumer overall expenditure on education was RMB606 trillion in 2006 and is forecast to double by 2015.
• On toys alone, expenditure is expected to reach RMB100 billion (about US$14 billion) by 2010.
• The average household expenditure increased by 50% between 2001 and 2006.
• Chinese parents can spend up to 50 of their household income on their children, particularly in urban areas.
• Western brands and products are regarded very favourably as representing good quality which boosts the appeal of western educational products.
All of which throws light on why China is now a market that many educational goods and toys manufacturers are looking towards.
Communicating effectively with this market can be a tricky task. Not only do you need to ensure the product is appealing to the consumer, the child, but you also need to convey a different message to the customer, the parent, who will appreciate the educational benefits being made clear in a credible way.
Experts recommend a two-pronged approach.
Firstly, make the product appealing to children. If there are instructions for use, make them simple to understand and ensure that your translation is accurate and as easy to comprehend as the original language version.
Secondly, remember the parents' concerns about quality and safety when marketing your products. Ensure that these messages are reinforced in the way you write about the products. Good quality translation can demonstrate that not only does the western toy seller show attention to detail in the product but also shows respect for the culture that they are selling to.
But above all, if your business is in the business of manufacturing toys and educational products, do not let this market opportunity go to waste.

Magazines serve as the mirror of all the current trends and contemporary events, consisting of articles, and discussions reflecting all the regular aspects of a chosen topic, or area of discussion. Moving on the same lines, educational toy magazines also serve the same purpose concerning the market and emergence of new toys. These magazines also can serve as a guide for the first time parents, who are confused about which toy to buy for their child, or which toy has become one of the most popular educational toys, on the shelf.
Various toy magazines inform about the different educational toys, prevalent in the market with a full description about their entertaining functionalities, with the educational aspect hidden behind them This is particularly helpful because, it is not always possible for the parents to visit all the stores and check all the toys to decide on one. Early Learning Tips - Why Multipurpose Toys Are the Best
Do you know why multipurpose toys are the best at promoting cognitive development in the youngest children? You will and know specific toys to choose after you read this article. Brain development in the youngest children is best fostered by unstructured creative play time vs. rote learning and memorization.
I recently came across an interesting article, "Rethinking Children's Play" in the National PTA's Our Children magazine. The article explains how children learn through play, then traces the changes in playtime and toys from the latter half of the 20th century until today, significantly noting that media-linked toys can be traced directly to FCC deregulation in 1984. Now TV shows and movies can explicitly market to children.
Think about the typical toys and action figures or video games linked to TV programs or movies. The biggest problem, per the PTA, is that many of these toys just tell children how to play and use the toys to imitate what they see on the screen.
So, which toys are the best?
You can get many of the best kinds of educational learning and cognitive development toys that facilitate your child's intellectual, social and emotional development from websites that specialize in developmental expert-selected toys. Still, the best toys are those that can be used in a variety of ways, some of which your child will invent themselves.
Examples of unstructured, multipurpose toys include clay, blocks, balls, and pretend play toys like wagons, generic toy figures, stuffed animals and baby dolls--all of these encourage play that children can control and shape to meet their individual needs over time. The best thing is that some of these toys are also the most inexpensive or free (like stackable plastic containers and boxes around the house)!
It's good to have educational play interactions with your little one, but also let them have regular, uninterrupted playtime (away from the TV or DVD player) and let them know that play is important by encouraging it every day.
Whatever you do, make thoughtful choices about the toys and media you introduce to your child -- focus on ones that promote true playtime, allowing them the fullest range of freedom and creativity.
The Bottom Line is that it's easy to put your child on a lifelong path of learning with a few easy steps. I invite you to learn more about the best educational toys for toddlers and preschoolers when you visit http://www.destinybaby.com/654/find-the-best-baby-toys-online-and-save.html

Any sorts of fanciful play sets, such as garages, airports and dollhouses, can also be popular and educational ways for your child to learn about the world around them. Toys that feature clay modeling, chalkboards or anything that the child can write on will help to give the older toddler an outlet for expression.

English Language Teaching - Using Toys as Educational Tools
Children love to play. Who can deny it? So why not use this universal characteristic to provide and promote English language learning as well? If you do, you can hardly go wrong. What child is going to say, “Teacher, I don’t want to play”? Sure, it’s ultimately possible – but so is a force five tornado in South America or an “Armageddon-level earthquake in Tibet. Just don’t hold your breath while you’re waiting.
Toys of all types and kinds are available worldwide. Why not turn this to your advantage to motivate your young learners? For that matter, your not-so-young learners could benefit too; especially those learners who are “young at heart”, for those of you who might be teaching adult learners. Let’s look at some “realia” or “toys” that are commonly available and could be called into play. (pun intended)
• Stuffed animals and dolls –
A perennial learner favorite even my most mature adult students give up an “Awww”, whenever I whip out the likes of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Tigger, rabbit, puppy, Teddy or others of my stuffed animal menagerie. You can simulate conversations, use them to illustrate prepositions of place and position, as turn-taking devices or to “replace” learners in a game or activity. They (the stuffed animals) don’t mind being tossed around either.
• Soft rubber or inflated ball –
How a classroom could function without at least one of these is beyond me. One learner can “select” another in a mill drill, TPR or group activity by simply tossing the ball to someone else. That way the teacher won’t “play favorites” during the activity. A ball can be used in a relay fashion to signal the next learner in a sequence or game. If it’s dropped or mis-handled, no problem, it just bounces a couple of times or so before returning to the game. Neat, huh?
• Cars, trucks and other Vehicles –
Learners can “drive” to places in a neighborhood, from one part of the room to another or from one position on a game board to another. Small ones can serve as place markers in a board game, while larger ones can be used as props in dialogues, role plays and conversations. Don’t forget about using them for grammar and verb practice activities either. And oh yes, girls as well as boys like them too. Adults? Well I have to watch my vehicle props carefully or the adult learners will “steal” them!
• Board games –
You really only need a small selection of board games if you have even a shred of imagination. Two or three will work nicely. Some all-time favorites are ones like “Scrabble”, “Monopoly”, “Checkers” and “Chess” which both use the same alternately colored squares board. Use the boards to “create” your own games too. Don’t forget a deck or two of Playing Cards either. No, not for Poker, but for simpler, faster-playing games like “War”, “Fish” or “21” (numbers – not Blackjack!)
Please note:
I’m not a proponent of using guns or simulations of firearms of any type in the classroom – not even water pistols. No bats, hitting, or aggressive behavior promoting realia of any type normally enters my learning environments. True you can get aggressive behavior from some of the toys I’ve mentioned, but it’s easily squashed or put down without too much trouble. I just explain to the learners what’s allowed and what’s not. This of course, is by no means an exhaustive list. I’m sure you’ll come up with many of your own locally-available favorites for use in your classroom. In fact, if you have some unusual or unique realia that you use, I’d love to hear about it.

Best Baby Toys For Your Little Ones
Your baby deserves the best toys. There are so many to choose from. How do you know which are the top toys? Kids toys that help your child to learn and keep them busy as well are easily what you want in any item. Unfortunately, it isn't a matter of choosing a specific toy company. While some toy companies have set goals to meet certain educational specifications when designing their toys, the brand name doesn't always make the best toys. When choosing toys for your baby, consider the different features you need to look for. There are distinctions that set the best baby toys apart from the others. These are easily categorized based on the senses that the child uses to learn from. You need to consider the visual appeal, the physical appeal, and the auditory appeal.
Visual Appeal: There is probably nothing more stimulating in terms of the best baby toys than the ones that provide the most visual attractiveness. Happy innocent faces and a bright variety of colors are two of the features that are implemented in well-made learning toys. Colors alone are significant. Different colors can provoke different feelings. For example, red has been shown to stimulate the adrenal glands, which helps with strength and stamina. Pink helps relax the muscles. Orange has positive influences on the emotional state. Yellow stimulates the brain and also helps with memory and clear thinking. Green creates feelings of comfort. Blue makes us feel relaxed and calm. It is no wonder that best baby toys are brightly colored and explains why babies are usually happy when surrounded by these types of toys.
Physical Appeal: Have you ever wondered why babies touch so many things? One reason is their need to experience a variety of textures. The benefit of touching helps increase the amount of perception that the child experiences. When shopping for the best baby toys choose those toys that have different textures. Soft, rugged, ridged, bumpy, crinkly are just some of the few different textures you'll find in toy products today. Many toys combine mediums to allow for additional texture appeal. For example, a doll designed specifically for a baby may have an ultra soft body, a hard plastic teething ring in place of a hand, and rubbery feet so that an infant can feel several different sensations with a single toy. Allowing your child to explore with his sense of touch increases his tactile stimulation needed for that part of his cognitive development.
Auditory Appeal: Sound is said to be the sense that develops first in babies. As a result, they use this sense quite a bit when learning about their environment. The best baby toys offer a variety of sounds. To find the right toy, determine if the sound is clear. Make sure the sound is not too loud or too quiet. You will want the child to be able to hear the sound but not have it hurt his ears. Also, consider choosing toys with human voices. Toys that contain different words help increase the child's cognitive development and his vocabulary.
For the best baby toys, choose those that provide these essential components of learning. The top toys offer a variety of sound, visual and touch sensory projectiles. If you're looking for the best toys to offer your child, choose those that provide these sensory outlets. Kids toys should always have educational purposes as well as provide fun activities. With the selection of educational toys on the market today, it should not be difficult to find these types of toys.

Choosing the Best Educational Toys
Educational toys enable children to learn as they play. Educational toys help a child acquire new skills and improve their current ones all the while having fun. Educational toys are great at this - in encouraging learning in a fun environment. Educational toys are not only fun but practical. Of course, there are important factors that a parent needs to consider in getting the best educational toys for their children:
1. Consider the child's age when choosing educational toys. There are educational toys in the market available for all age groups. Check the labels of toys for age appropriateness. Electronic toys, breakable toys, and those with minute parts are definitely not for infants. Consider safety fore mostly. The best for smaller kids are ones that activate the senses and are good for motor skills - toys producing, sounds, turning buttons, push and pull, filling and emptying, bobbing bath toys, squishy toys, clay or shapes. A one year old would probably only throw number or letter blocks without recognizing the idea of numbers. So not too complicated; neither should you underestimate a preschooler with toys meant only for younger kids. Maybe you should challenge them with more books (picture books and pop-ups are so much fun) or chalk boards, flash cards, toy clocks and globes, and puzzles.
2. Also consider a child's interest. A child could be interested more in sports than in music or art for example. Observe if he likes to bang things more than scribble. Try to get an idea of your child's "field" before buying educational toys.
3. Let your child's imagination work. Children's play is often centered on their little worlds, and getting their minds working creatively greatly stimulates and develops their minds. The more the toy encourages creative thinking and make-believe, the better. Toys that are good at this are building blocks, arts and crafts, coloring books, stuffed animals, doll set, action figures, cars, and science and discovery toys like binoculars, archeology tools, veterinarian kits, habitats, and the likes.
4. Watch-and-learn toys are magnificent. Toys that are imitative of adults' activities always get a child's attention. The average cooking play set goes a long way in a child's learning. So does sports toys like ping pong play or dad's favorite shooting hoops basketball and profession toys like doctor's kit.
5. Educational toys should be fun. The best way for a child to learn is probably by having fun. Whatever that interests your child stimulates his brain to get ready for learning. Educational toys serve this purpose. It is important for educational toys to be entertaining to foster brain activity stimulation. It has been scientifically proven that this brain stimulation through activating interest in a child help develop thought and reflex patterns and a good hand-eye coordination. Plus, fun is an important factor in choosing an educational toy since the child won't even notice that lessons are being taught while he is playing. And lastly, fun is great way to get a child's attention and focus in the first place. Thus, educational toys should be fun in the best way they could be.
Exposure to educational toys in the early formative years of learning, during times of perception with awe and surprise, when a child's brain acts like a quick sponge absorbing great new experiences playing a huge part in a child's capacity for learning in the later stages of his life. It is then responsibility of every parent to provide educational toys for their child to get them a head start in early development helping them explore the world around them. Grab some of these tips and watch your child maximize his abilities.

Best Educational Toy Brands
When parents buy toys, they want something that is special and unique. Sometimes, they even buy those popular among kids so that their kids would not feel inferior to their classmates having the latest toys. Nevertheless, it is not bad too if your child owns educational wooden toys. Not because it is made of wood, it means that it is not cool. There are parents that choose wooden toys rather than those made of plastic and steel.
However, there are parents that are very particular when it comes to the brands of the toys. They sometimes feel that some brands are not credible or reliable when it comes to providing joy and educational benefits for the kids. However, adults need not to be all this always. What parents need to look at is how the toy has an edge over the others. Parents should not look at the brands because they are just names. Questioning the capability of the toy is one thing most adults do. They always check the box to see instructions and the likes.
With educational wooden toys, there is always room for improvement. Working or playing with such enables the child to get creative and imaginative on the things he can do with such simple toys. They can do whatever they want with it without getting concerned if the toy breaks. Children especially the little ones are not capable of wrecking toys especially if it is made of wood. Usually wooden toys come from hard wood to ensure that it can take the torture the children do to it. Nevertheless, when the right amount of force is applied, such toys can break easily.
Still the brands make a huge difference in the toy industry. For people who have many resources, they would rather spend their money on tried and tested toys made from long standing toy companies. They feel that new and smaller toymakers are not worth their money. However, some parents or adults try whatever is new so that they can compare the quality and the artisanship of the toy with the others. If they like what they see, they would buy those from the newer toymakers. If not, it is back to those bigger toy companies.
Although toys produced by companies long in the business have an edge over the newer ones. They know that parents and children will still patronize their stuff instead of the others. It is still also safe to say that not everyone thinks the same. There are those who would try out whatever it is they can just to know what it is to play with it. There is nothing wrong if you buy educational wooden toys from newbie toy companies. It is your choice and money. Nevertheless, giving chance to others new in the industry is necessary if they want to make a name for themselves. Being the underdog puts on lots of pressure on them. When they succeed and slowly gain recognition, everything is all okay.

Do Educational Toys Promote Early Childhood Development? (Part VI, Cognitive Skills)
Cognitive development begins at infancy and continues through adolescence to adulthood. However, the first six years of a child's growth and development are the most critical. The first three years of a child's life is a period of incredible growth in all developmental areas. By age three a child's brain has produced billions of cells and has made trillions of connections between these cells called synapses, which allows the various areas of the brain to communicate and function together. Studies show that the development of a child's brain takes years to complete, which gives parents a window of opportunity to help their child establish educational and developmental patterns that will stimulate a life filled with learning experiences.
It was once believed that infants lacked cognition until they learned and developed a language. However, research shows that from the time of birth, a child is not only aware of their surroundings but begins to learn. With this in mind, cognitive development can be defined as, the developmental process in which an infant becomes and intelligent, decision making, problem solving, information processing person. It is what gives a person the ability to acquire, organize, remember and use information to understand, relate with and function in the world around them.
Most infants can focus on and follow moving objects as well as see colors and have simple reflex actions such as grasping and sucking. By three months they can recognize faces, imitate facial expressions and move their fingers and thumbs. By eight months they imitate sounds, recognize voices and respond when they hear their name as well as grasp and hold small objects. At twelve months a child can say "mama and dada", make various sounds and eye-hand coordination develops.
Welcome to your toddler. A toddler's vocabulary develops and grows daily. Their speech become more intelligible and they begin to comprehend the meanings of words and small phrases. They begin to understand concepts of yes and no as well as right and wrong. They begin to recognize more objects and people as well as having a better understanding of emotions such as love, fear and trust. Their curiosity grows and is reflected by them asking questions.
Your preschooler's development has blossomed tremendously. Their speech is understandable, their vocabulary has increased and they enjoying sharing their experiences as they speak in longer sentences. Their social skills have developed to where they enjoy playing and cooperating with other children their age. They have attention span has significantly increased, they count to 100, begin spelling and reading.
Educational toys provide both parent and child an avenue of fun filled interaction. Research has found that educational toys specifically designed and constructed to encourage and challenge the development of educational skills of children, when introduced into a child's daily play, can increase a child's IQ up to 50 points. Many educational toys provide an array of activities to enhance a child's physical development, social skill development, emotional development, language development, creative development and cognitive development.

Educational Baby Toys
Choosing the right types of toys for babies and infants requires understanding of their specific needs, interests, and abilities by knowing the characteristics of the different stages of growth and development. Toys are of vital importance in the learning process of babies. The rate at which they absorb information can depend on the development of their neuromuscular skills. However, well-chosen toys can be of assistance to help stimulate their development as well as their overall growth and maturity.
The empty stare that might be observed in the eyes of infants is not at all empty. The capacity of their sense of sight is limited, so that is why some areas may appear to be vacant. Red, white, and black are the first shades that the baby recognizes. Toys with these color tones can easily attract their attention, stimulating their sense of sight and therefore leading to the tendency to grab and grasp. Educational toys for babies and infants must be handy enough to be easily gripped and manipulated. Toys that will appeal to their sense of sight, hearing, and touch, like mobiles, rattles, and brightly colored toys with varied textures are good choices from among the other types of educational toys.
The tendency of hand to mouth reaction once they get hold of something is part of their development. However, it is oftentimes the cause of injuries that can be otherwise prevented through proper attention and assistance. Avoid toys with pointed edges that can cause scratches and wounds. The pieces of toys must not be small enough to be swallowed. They are also developing their first set of teeth which can be stimulated by toys that they can chew on.
Toys that are suited to the stage they are in must be carefully chosen to maximize their growth and development.
Educational Toys provides detailed information on Educational Toys, Children's Educational Toys, Educational Games, Educational Baby Toys and more. Educational Toys is affiliated with Reading Glasses.
